|School||Cardinal Hume Catholic School|
|Current Position||Head of Design Faculty|
|Designation||Specialist Leader of Education|
|Designated Specialism||Design & Technology|
|Background|| I currently work as the Head of Design Faculty at Cardinal Hume Catholic School. I have overall responsibility for the management of the faculty that includes Design & Technology, Engineering, Food Technology, Health & Social Care, Art, ICT and Computer Science. I am also the whole school STEM coordinator, working with STEM link teachers from the Maths and Science departments to provide a coherent and structured approach to the delivery of the STEM activities across the school. My specialist areas of teaching are Design & Technology, Engineering and Construction having in-depth knowledge of GCSE, BTEC and A level systems and good practice. I am also a moderator for A level Product Design with AQA.
I have been involved in three supportive reviews of the Design & Technology departments of a number of local schools. This required me to work collaboratively with the Head of department within each school looking to move their department forward, identifying areas of strength and areas that require further development to improve achievement and attainment across all levels.
In my role of Head of Faculty I look to ensure systems are in place to monitor pupil progress through accurate assessment of work with supportive and focused feedback to assist students in achieving their full potential. I have delivered sessions at heads of department development days, which has made an impact upon monitoring procedures and target setting across the school. I have delivered training and shared good practice in both areas with SLT and the whole school staff.
