Having been a teacher for 19 years following degrees at Glasgow and Oxford University, I joined Cardinal Hume in 2010 and am currently in post as Director of ITT and a member of the Learning & Teaching team. As well as contributing to whole school CPD, I am the Professional Tutor with overall management and responsibility for Initial Teacher Training across the Trinity NorthEast Alliance: my role involves supporting, managing and training both mentors and trainees following the PGCE, School Direct and TeachFirst training pathways in both Secondary and Primary education. I’m also responsible for the school’s NQT induction programme, involving bespoke training and monitoring as well as supporting Newly Qualified Teachers address their emerging needs and areas for development. My role also extends to the induction & support of new staff to the school through an induction and training oportunities. I also have six years’ experience as a Head of Department (English) and have established outdoor education in a number of schools through leading The Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and numerous World Challenge expeditions overseas to South America, Asia and Africa.
