|School||Cardinal Hume Catholic School|
|Current Position||Leader of Science / Director of Curriculum|
|Designation||Specialist Leader of Education|
Since becoming Head of Science at Cardinal Hume 7 years ago, I have overseen huge structural change and secured rapid improvement to results. We have restructured the way Science is taught across all key stages, creating detailed and differentiated schemes of work, robust assessment and homework material and an excellent tracking system for monitoring and intervention. Our ‘Outlines of Learning’ are bespoke, having been created from scratch in house and form the bedrock of everything we do. Many aspects of the work completed in Science are held as examples of outstanding practice across school. We are passionate about British Science Week and have extensive experience bringing in outside speakers, holding community science events and raising the profile and passion for our subject across all key stages. I have worked closely with five local schools, supporting Heads of Science and conducting assisted reviews. Once areas of improvement are identified a detailed action plan is drawn up with continuing support and staff training offered – including an ‘open door’ tour of how Science is run at Cardinal Hume (with the focus decided entirely by the supported parties) and our resources shared. Very positive feedback was received from all involved and the work commended in some instances by OfSted.
